Welcome to Year 6

Autumn 1

We are well underway with our learning for the first half of the autumn term. See below for the Aut 1 Curriculum Map giving more detail about the topics we are studying in each subject. I have also included a breakdown of the various topics for the rest of the year should you wish to know in advance what we will be covering.

Our trip this term will be to Gressenhall Museum to learn all about life during WW2. The date is yet to be confirmed but as soon as I know I will let you all know.

PE will be Wednesdays and Thursdays. Our topics this half-term are Health & Fitness and Tennis. Children are to come into school on those days wearing PE kit please.

Our Year 6 'Meet the Teacher' meeting is on Monday 15th September at 5pm. 

Homework

Reading

The expectation is that children read 5 times a week. We ask that reading records are in school every day and on a Friday they will be checked. Where possible, please could children complete their quizzes at home. Click the link here. Accelerated Reader 

Spellings

On a Monday, the children will be given a list of words for the week. As well as working on them in school, they will bring them home in order to practice them daily. Spelling books should be brought into school every Monday so new words can be inserted.

Maths

To begin with, there will be a piece of maths homework relating to the class work uploaded each week. This is optional but I would recommend that all children attempt it. The answers will be there too so self-marking is encouraged. After Christmas and as we approach the SATs, the homework will be tailored to help children prepare themselves for the tests.
